Maddie Webber added another accolade to her scholastic resume as the South Fayette High School senior was named the Pennsylvania Player of the Year in Class 5A by the state’s sports writers.

A Villanova recruit, Webber led the Lions to a section banner, a second straight WPIAL title and a runner-up showing in the PIAA tournament this winter. The Lions finished 28-3 overall.

The 5-11 senior guard averaged 17.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. A two-time all-state selection, she scored 1,387 career points.

An all-section performer, Webber was named The Almanac and Observer-Reporter Player of the Year earlier this season.

Three other area athletes joined Webber on the all-star roster.

Peters Township’s Natalie Wetzel and Upper St. Clair’s Rylee Kalocay earned spots on the Class 6A squad while Seton LaSalle’s Mallory Daly managed a berth on the Class 3A unit.

A 6-3 sophomore, Wetzel garnered first-team honors. She averaged 19.2 points while helping the Indians to the quarterfinals in the WPIAL 6A playoffs. An all-section performer, she also grabbed eight rebounds a game.

A 5-9 sophomore, Kalocay gained third-team acclaim. She averaged 20 points per game to go along with three steals an outing. Additionally, she buried 42 3-point field goals and cashed in on 88 percent of her shots from the charity stripe.

Kalocay helped the Panthers win a section title and reach the WPIAL finals. In that championship loss to North Allegheny, she scored 24 of her team’s 45 points.

A 5-8 junior, Daly collected third-team distinction. She averaged 21.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 5.3 steals and 3.3 assists for the Rebels, who posted a 13-10 record after losing to Waynesburg in the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs. Daly surpassed the 1,000-point plateau last December.

On the male side, Connor Spratt was selected to the second team of the Class 3A all-state squad. A Peters Township native, he competed at Seton La Salle.

The 6-2 senior guard averaged 26.1 points in lead the Rebels to a 15-7 season with that included WPIAL and PIAA state playoff appearances. He also picked up 3.5 steals per game. In two seasons at SLS, Spratt scored 1,029 points
