Peters Township opens section action with golf wins

Peters Township opened Section 6-AAA boys’ golf action with victories against Baldwin, 195-257, and Bethel Park, 185-221. The Indians are 2-0 in the section.

Against the Highlanders, junior Ben Miller earned medalist honors with a low score of 37 on the South Hills Country Club course.

Colton Lusk, Griffin Hansberry and Ryan Watterson, all juniors, followed with 39s.

Jeremy Poon and Chris McCay carded 40 and 42. Nick Haught also competed in the match.

Against the Black Hawks, Miller shot a 1-under 35 on the ValleyBrook Country Club course. Hansberry followed with a 36 while Watterson and Shane Williams finished with 38s. Haught shot a 39.

McCay, Jackson Baxter, Brendan Kern and Ryan Hillebrand also participated in the match.

Chan Yoon led the Black Hawks with a 41. Other BP contributors included: Ethan Jones, Mason Devet-Raeder, Sinjin Stanbrook, Layton Cameron and Gianni Esposito. Cam Boracic and Jack Smith participated in the match.

Playing against tough conditions – heat, heavy rough and significantly fast greens – the Indians moved to 6-0 overall when they recorded a non-section win against Norwin, 202-215.

In the character builder against the Knights, Lusk, Williams, Haught and Miller all carded 40s while Watterson finished with 42.

Hansberry, Poon, McCay, Kern, Baxter and Hillebrand all participated in the match.

Lady Indians winThe Peters Township girls captured the championship at the Selinsgrove Invitational held at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club

Ellie Benson earned medalist honors, carding a 74. Sophia Severns also finished in the Top 3 with a 78. Brooke Vowcheck followed with an 84.

In section opener, the Lady Indians dispatched Bethel Park, 163-218 at Valley Brook Country Club. Benson shot an even par 36 and Severns submitted a 40 score.

At the Pittsburgh Field Club, PT won matches against Fox Chapel and Armstrong. The Indians placed first with a 168 team score while the Foxes finished with a 184 and Armstrong followed with 214.

Severn shot an even par 37 and Benson submitted a 40.

In a key non-section match, the Lady Indians downed North Allegheny, 169-196. Benson submitted the low score of 37.

Lusk medalsColton Lusk gained medalist honors during the Wheeling Park High School Invitational. The junior shot an even par 71 on the 6,605-yard Jones Course at Oglebay.

Lusk also led Peters Township to the team trophy as the Indians finished ahead of Wheeling Park and Fairmont with a 321 score.

Griffin Hansberry placed third overall with an 81.

Other PT contributors included Nick Haught (83) and Shane Williams (85). Ben Miller and Ryan Watterson were the Indians’ other two competitors in the Play 6, Count 4 format.
