Divers medal at WPIAL championships

Four area divers earned medals during the WPIAL Class AAA championships held Feb. 25 at North Allegheny.
Malcolm Thompson of Mt. Lebanon led the parade to the podium. The sophomore finished fifth overall with a 402.05 score.
Seneca Valley led a 1-2-3 sweep of the top spots with Isaiah Clerkley, winning the gold with a 559.35 total. Jeremiah Laslavic (508.30) and Sam Hersick (454.70) followed ahead of Fox Chapel’s Jackson Hagler (425.70), making Thompson one spot short of qualifying for the PIAA championships.
Only the top four males and top 3 females in Class AAA moved on to the state competition set for March 16-17 at the Kinney Natatorium on the Bucknell University campus in Lewisburg, PA.
Thompson’s teammate, Liam Smith, finished seventh in the district. The senior scored 365.50.
Jasper Harter-Hughes was sandwiched in between the Lebo duo. A senior from Bethel Park, he secured sixth place with a 375 mark.
Other area male competitors and their finishes were: Ethan Yeaman from South Fayette (ninth); Kobe Yuyi from Upper St. Clair (11th); Lebo’s Coen Santello (15th) and Cody Hendrich-Bondra of Bethel Park (17th).
On the girls’ side, Addison Burnett finished sixth in the WPIAL. A senior, she scored 388.70 points.
Christina Shi of North Allegheny won her fourth straight title, racking up a 540.75 score. The Tigers finished 1-3-4 in the standings with Greater Latrobe’s Hannah Polosky (532.30) securing second to prevent the sweep.
Burnett’s sister, Delaney, also competed in the meet. The freshman finished 21st.
