Mt. Lebanon beats McDowell in PIAA boys lacrosse match

Less than 84 minutes after McDowell got off the bus to play its first round PIAA boys’ lacrosse playoff match, Mt. Lebanon sent the Trojans back home to Erie by virtue of its 17-3 triumph.
The Trojans were late arrivals to the stadium, getting stuck in I-79 traffic and never seemed to get in gear as the Blue Devils jumped off to an 8-0 lead nine minutes into the fray.
Fred LaSota led the scoring attack, registering a hat trick and contributing an assist.
With two goals each in the victory were: Miles Halter, John Estabrook, Keegan Green and Kristopher Kambitsis. Brady Westbrook, Joseph Hetz, Colton Cramer, Quinn Lynn and Jonas Wells had single tallies.
With the win, Lebo improved to 19-3 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals played
Lebo girlsMt. Lebanon traveled to Manheim Township and battled the Blue Steaks in the first round of the PIAA Class AAA girls lacrosse tournament. Blue Devils, the District 2 runner-up, dropped an 18-4 decision and finished 16-4 overall while Manheim Township, the District 1 champion improved to 16-1 on the season.
Mollie Steingrower, Tegan Hoover, Kate Lamendola and Addie Murdoch scored the goals for the Blue Devils. Murdoch also provided two assists.
Class AAIn PIAA Class AA action, South Fayette defeated Cathedral Prep, 9-4, on June 6 at the Hagerty Family Events Center in Erie.
Drew Welhorsky racked up four goals for the Lions, who improved to 19-1 overall. Spence Hondru recorded a hat trick while Owen Makar and Wade Scholar supplied single tallies.
The Lions led, 3-1, at halftime on a pair of goals by Welhorsky and tally by Hondrun. The advantage expanded to 7-1 by the end of the third quarter.
With the win, the Lions advanced to the quarterfinals and faced Lampeter Strasburg in a game played over the weekend at Penn State University. The District 3 champion entered the fray with a 19-3 record after a first-round win against Hampton, 16-0.
The PIAA lacrosse championships matches will be played June 17 at Panzer Stadium on the Penn State University campus.
