Chartiers Valley wrestler recognized

Dylan Evans was named to the 2023 Cliff Keen/Wrestling USA Senior All-American Teams. The recent Chartiers Valley graduate gained honorable mention recognition as a Pennsylvania representative.
His photograph appears, along with all the other honorees, on a poster that will be displayed in wrestling rooms and gymnasiums across the country. The distinction is a highly esteemed honor for graduating seniors.
Thirteen wrestlers in weight classes from 113 pounds through heavyweight were named to the Dream Team, including Waynesburg Central’s Rocco Welsh at 170. Welsh was a two-time state champion and two-time PIAA runner-up with a 159-14 career record.
Iowa City’s Ben Kueter was named the 2023 Outstanding Wrestler. He was a four-time undefeated state champion with a 111-0 career record. He will attempt to play football and wrestle at Iowa.
The squad also included 13 academic All-Americans and 82 additional athletic All-Americans, including Evans.
Evans, who maintained a 4.8 GPA, ended his scholastic career as the all-time winningest wrestler in CV history with a 139-24 record. He capped a 37-4 senior season with a second straight state championship, another school mark.
Evans was a four-time PIAA medalists, adding fourth and eighths as a sophomore and freshman. He was also a four-time section finalists, winning two titles and taking runner-up laurels twice, as well as a four-time WPIAL medalist and four-time Southwest Regional place winner.
A Junior National competitor, he was a finalist last year in the Greco-Roman competition.
Evans will continue his career at the University of Pittsburgh.
“To get put on this prestigious poster is a pretty big deal,” said Chartiers Valley head coach Bill Evans. “We are excited for Dylan and we look forward to him following in the footsteps of some other South Hills wrestlers that enjoyed great careers at Pitt.”
CV’s own Tyler Wilps (NCAA runner-up and All-American) as well as Anthony Zanetta (four-time NCAA qualifier and three-time EWL champion) and South Park’s Jake Wentzel (NCAA runner-up and three-time ACC champion) had stellar careers as Panthers but none experienced the success Nino Bonaccorsi enjoyed. The Bethel Park product was crowned an NCAA champion this spring.
