Johnson wins WPGA event

Tanner Johnson of McMurray won the 30th WPGA Spring Stroke Play Championship hosted by Nemacolin Country Club.
After opening the competition with a 68, Johnson shot a 69 to finish tied and at the top of the leaderboard with two other competitors; Rocco Salvitti from Canonsburg and Rick Stimmel. All finished with a two-day total of 137.
Johnson, however, captured his first Spring Stroke Play Championship victory in sudden-death. He rolled in a perfectly-placed 20-foot birdie on the first hole of a playoff to claim the title.
The 24-year-old son of Brent and Jamie Johnson is a Peters Township High School graduate who also excelled at golf while earning a degree from Ohio University.
After Salvitti and Stimmel, Kevin Bove and Nathan Piatt tied for fourth place in the event. Both finished with even par scores of 140 for the two-day tournament.
