Peters Township continues winning ways on the links
Peters Township remained unbeaten on the golf course. The boys improved to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in section action while the Lady Indians were 11-0 after recent victories.
The Lady Indians, who are the defending WPIAL team champions, defeated Elizabeth-Forward, 164-236, and Mars, 160-224, during the past week’s outings.
Ellie Benson led the attack with low scores of 36 and 37 in the respective matches.
PT’s other low scores against the Warriors were: Brooke Vowcheck (39), Sophia Severns (44) and Amelia Severns (45). Against the Planets, Vowcheck (40), Sophia Severns (42) and Gabby Catalogna (41) supported Benson’s efforts.
Previously, the Lady Indians beat Bethel Park, 171-227.
Sophie Severns (40), Vovcheck (42), Amelia Severns (44) and Benson (45) led the attack.
Meanwhile, the PT boys defeated Thomas Jefferson, 195-230, and Mt. Lebanon, 184-207, in the past week’s matches.
Against the Jaguars, Shane Williams (37), Nick Haught (38), Colton Lusk (39), Ryan Watterson (40) and Griffin Hansberry (41) produced the low scores for the Indians.
Against the Blue Devils, Lusk led the way with a 35 while Ben Miller (36), Haught (37), Watterson (38) and Williams (38) followed with solid rounds.
Jack Hartman led the Blue Devils with a 39 followed by Owen Snyder and Kevin Taback with 41s. Zach Lynam and Kyle Morgan also contributed to the Lebo scoring.
It was PT’s second win this season against the Blue Devils. Previously, the Indians produced a 201-229 victory.
Scorers for PT included: Hansberry (37), Lusk (38), Watterson (39), Haught (42) and Williams (45).
Miller, Jeremy Poon, Jackson Baxter, McCay and Brendan Kern all competed in the match for the Indians.
Top finishers for Lebo were Hartman, Snyder, Taback, Morgan and Cooper Whalen with scores ranging from 41-53.
Jackson Bell, Ethan Stott, Veeraj Jain and Fintan Vallely also competed.
Previously, the PT boys beat Baldwin, 206-252.
Lusk (37) and Haught (41) led the way followed by Chris McCay, Watterson and Hansberry, all of whom fired 42s.
In other golf action, Upper St. Clair improved to 10-2 overall wins against South Fayette, 183-192, and Chartiers Valley, 179-212.
Connor McKenzie earned medalist honors in both matches, carding a low score of 33.
The Lady Panthers also defeated South Fayette, 192-217, as well as Fox Chapel, 172-174, on the links. Myra Burchill carded a 45 against the Lions and Olivia Ziegler fired a 40 against the Foxes.
USC improved to 9-1 overall with a one-stroke win, 176-177, against Mt. Lebanon and a 194-226 win against Bethel Park. In the dramatic win against the Blue Devils, Ziegler and Addy Shedd led the way with each posting 42 scores. Against the Black Hawks, Shedd and Myla Burchill led with 42 and 46 scores.
