USC, PT on collision course in soccer
Upper St. Clair and Peters Township remained on a collision course in girls’ soccer after picking up their latest victories against Bethel Park and Mt. Lebanon respectively to stay undefeated.
The Panthers and the Indians will square off at 7:45 p.m. Sept. 18 at Confluence Financial Partners Stadium in McMurray.
USC ran its overall record to 7-0 after wins against the Lady Hawks and Canon-McMillan. The Lady Panthers have outscored the opposition, 44-0, and are 5-0 in Section 2 in Class 4A.
In the 2-0 blanking of BP, Sierra Dupre had the brace. Ellie Shantholtzer assisted Dupre’s first tally.
In the shutout over the Lady Macs, Helena Walker and Natalie Disora scored the goals. Maeryn Mannix provided an assist.
Previously, USC dispatched Mt. Lebanon, 6-0.
Kate Moore posted the hat trick while Sierra Dupre, Abby Mascaro and Ellie Shanholtzer provided single tallies.
Cam Friday and Maddie Webb have combined in goal during USC’s shutout streak.
Peters Township kept pace with the Lady Panthers by also beating the Blue Devils, 4-0. The Lady Indians are 6-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in section. They have outscored the opposition, 28-1.
Julia Spergel, Cam Klein, Marina Hajnosz and Milena Gill tucked in the goals against the Blue Devils. Klein and Spergel added assists. Molly Kubistek posted the shutout in net.
The Lady Indians also registered shutouts against Norwin, 2-0, and Baldwin, 5-0, in section play as well as against West Allegheny, 8-0, in exhibition.
Against the Knights, Atleigh Ciprich and Camryn Klein scored the PT goals. Natalie Faingaert had an assist and Molly Kubistek recorded the shutout in the nets.
Against the Highlanders, Jordan Klein, Paige Malley, Lucia Trapanotto and Grace Hajnosz scored the goals while Marina Hajnosz contributed two assists. Kaitlyn Strine and Sarah Schweiger combined for the shutout.
Against West-A, Malley, Ciprich, Julia Spergel, Milena Gill, Klein, Bailey Lutz, Inga Kreutzman, and Grace O’Korn found the back of the net. Klein and Marina Hajnosz had a pair of assists along with Sophia Guna.
In boys’ play, USC improved to 7-0 before tackling PT on Sept. 14.
The Panthers picked up a 3-1 win against Allderdice. Joe Donnelly scored twice and Jan Sames provided the other tally.
Previously, USC beat Canon-McMillan, 3-1, and edged Mt. Lebanon, 2-1.
Against the Big Macs, Joe Donnelly registered the hat trick.
Ben Murtough had a hand in both goals against Lebo. He scored the first tally with 14:40 left in the first half to tie the match, 1-1. The junior assisted on the game-winning tally by Sames in the second half.
Both USC and PT own first-half section wins against Baldwin.
Donnelly also had a hat trick in USC’s 3-0 win against the Highlanders.
Jeven Kelly completed the feat for the Indians in an 8-1 triumph against Baldwin. Alex Parise provided a pair of scores. Blake Gabelhart, Logan Peters and Nathan Froelich finished with single tallies.
The Indians suffered their first loss of the season when they dropped a 3-1 decision to Norwin. Parise scored the lone goal against the Knights.
PT bounced back though with a 4-0 win against Mt. Lebanon. Brett Martin (2), Nathan Froelich and Dante Pusateri supplied the goals while Parise kicked in assists.
