“America’s Got Talent” winner Landau Murphy visits Pittsburgh

Landau Eugene Murphy Junior’s life has been going at a non-stop pace for the past two years, and this holiday season is no exception.
The Season 6 winner of “America’s Got Talent” recently made a stop in Pittsburgh to perform at the My Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade Downtown, and later that day appeared at Barnes at Noble at South Hills Village Mall for a book signing.
“It was cold,” said Murphy about the parade. “I enjoyed it other than the cold. My face was trembling and got numb.”
He sung two songs in the parade: “That’s Life” and “White Christmas.”
Murphy signed copies of his new book titled, “America’s Got Talent Winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.: From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star,” which he wrote with Rick Robinson. The book chronicles his journey from working at a carwash to winning “America’s Got Talent” in 2011, where he was known for singing classics by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
Murphy was also promoting the release of his first Christmas CD, “Christmas for Two.”
The Logan, W.Va., native lives with his wife Jennifer and their children, Michael, 19, Marcus, 18, Kyra, 17, Morgan, 14, and Terrick, 12.
“Washing cars gave me the freedom to sing,” Murphy said. “I never saw it as practice, but it got me ready for the (“America’s Got Talent”) stage.”
“It’s been non-stop since the show,” said Murphy, who is constantly on the road.
Murphy said he was never nervous about the judges on the show, as he focused on singing for the people watching at home.
“It was something I have done about a million times,” said Murphy, who has been singing since he was a toddler.
Murphy added he loved being on a show like “America’s Got Talent” because, “It lets you be who you are.”
When he does have down-time, Murphy said he usually spends it “sitting in my studio making music.” He is also working on starting his own record label. This month, Murphy will journey to China, where he will perform and also be a judge on “China’s Got Talent.” Then, it’s back to the states to continue his Classic Christmas Tour and spend time with his family.
Murphy’s book is available at Barnes and Noble, and the book and CD are available at Amazon.com.
