92-year-old woman drives into Chartiers Creek

A 92-year-old Mt. Lebanon woman told police she was not injured when her car traveled through pine trees and down an embankment before landing upright in Chartiers Creek near the Valley Brook Country Club July 24.
Peters Township police Capt. Michael Yanchak said Mary David of Bower Hill Road, said she believed she put her car in park in the country club parking lot at 10:10 a.m. before attending an event at the club. Somehow her foot hit the gas pedal and her car went over the berm, through the pine trees and nose dived in the creek, which, Yanchak said, was higher than normal due to the recent heavy rains.
David was alone in the car and was wearing a seatbelt that, Yanchak said, was still on when emergency responders arrived.
Firefighters from Peters Township Fire Department extricated David, the sole occupant of the car.
As a precaution, David was taken to St. Clair Hospital to be checked. The hospital does not release information on patients’ conditions.
