Castle Shannon Fireman’s Carnival

The Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department held its annual carnival July 29-Aug. 3 in the parking lot of the fire department along Route 88. Hundreds of people gathered at the carnival to eat classic carnival foods like funnel cake and cheese fries and to ride the ferris wheel or merry-go-round. Kids of all ages could also play a variety of games. The proceeds raised from the carnival go toward the fire department, which serves Castle Shannon and Baldwin Township. The all-volunteer department relies solely on fund-raising and donations to continue operations. Each year, the department sells tickets for a chance to win a new car for $1 each. Here, Bailey O’Connell, 4, of Dormont enjoys an ice cream cone at the carnival.
