2 min read

During a short meeting June 24, Peters Township Council voted to provide the Canonsburg Lake Restoration Committee with $100,000 to assist in the rejuvenation of the lake.

According to Michael Silvestri, township manager, the money has been budgeted for several years waiting for the committee to begin the restoration project.

The vote to award the money was 4 to 1 with Councilman Robert Atkison voting no. Voting for were Frank Arcuri, Robert Lewis, Monica Merrell, and David Ball. Absent were James Berquist and Gary Stiegel Jr.

Council set 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19 as a hearing date for an ordinance to amend Chapter 27 that regulates mineral extraction and seismic testing dealing with natural gas drilling. No requests for permits have been received in the township. However, Silvestri said a permit to conduct seismic testing could be forthcoming.

An annual agreement with North Strabane Township was signed that extends the mutual aid agreement for the fire department.

Council also authorized spending $82,851 to purchase a new public works truck from Hunter Truck Sales, with an additional $60,800 for equipment, such as a snow plow, for a total of $143,700. The 2013 budget includes $145,000 for the purchase.

Work will begin soon to post the boundary between the township-owned Peters Lake Park and the open space adjacent to residential properties on Ashton Court.

Council will next meet at 7:30 p.m. July 8.
