A motorist died the evening of June 27 in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 79 when his pickup truck left the highway and rolled over near the Canonsburg exit.

Dakota Nairn Houy, 19, of Carnegie, died at the scene of the crash about 6:05 p.m., said Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.

The driver, who was the only person in the truck, was traveling north just past the Canonsburg on-ramp in North Strabane Township when he failed to make the turn and his vehicle skidded off the roadway and traveled onto the grassy shoulder.

The truck rolled over when it drove up a slight embankment and appeared to clip an exit sign for the Southpointe interchange.

The crash closed one northbound lane while state police investigated and the wreckage was removed from the shoulder of the road.

Investigators could not immediately say why the truck left the roadway or whether the driver suffered a medical emergency.

Warco said an autopsy was planned for June 28. State police are investigating.

North Strabane firefighters and Canonsburg Ambulance Service assisted state police at the scene.
