Used book, media sale benefits Peters schools

The second annual used book and media sale will be held May 17-18 in the gymnasium of the Peters Township Middle School, where thousands of books, and new this year, video games, CDs and DVDs, will be on sale. VHS tapes are not being accepted.
The event is sponsored by the PTA Area Council in the Peters Township School District, of which Lisa Briegel is president. The used book sale began last spring when the district was facing budget reductions.
“Because of the budget cuts and trimming of most of the supplies down to the bare bones, we wanted to help out anyway we could,” Briegel said.
The sale will begin at 3:15 and run until 8 p.m. May 17, and from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. May 18.
PTA Area Council has been collecting books, CDs, DVDs and video games in boxes at the front of each district building for about a month.
During the sale, books for all ages will be divided into sections.
“We separate by age group, we separate by genre,” Briegel said.
Last year, more than 7,000 books were collected and sold, resulting in profits of more than $2,000 which was donated to the district. About 350 used books were placed on building library shelves. This year, profits will again be donated to the district.
There will be PTA volunteers to help, and Briegel said some high school students should be helping to apply the time for their service hours.
“This is one-stop shopping for all those summer trips with activity and coloring books, reading books, and now DVDs. It should make the trip more interesting,” Briegel said.
