The Canonsburg-Houston Rotary Club is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. May 11 at the VFW, 539 W. Pike St. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children.
• The annual Canonsburg-Houston Firemen’s Cash Bash will be held May 11 at the Washington Fairgrounds.
Tickets are $20 and include food and refreshments.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the first drawing is at 7 p.m. The grand prize is $4,000 and the event benefits the Canonsburg and Houston Volunteer Fire departments. For tickets, call 724-746-1014, or contact any Canonsburg or Houston fireman.
Community Day is May 26 and will feature an appearance by Mike Vale of Tommy James and the Shondells, fireworks, Tony Janflone Jr., Joe Lagnese Swingtet Eight, country band The Stickers, and Joel Lindsey singing British rock with American soul.
Jesse Powell, an accomplished photographer who has won many photography awards over the years, will be the speaker at the Western Pennsylvania Lensshooters Camera Club at 7 p.m. May 8 in the Peters Township Public Library.
Powell will show some of his work and the equipment he uses to get the great pictures.
Members are encouraged to participate in the April photo theme assignment “rain.” One print per member.

The spring migratory bird count will be held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. May 11 in Boyce Mayview Park. Meet at the pavilion. Participation is free. The wooded acres in Boyce Mayview Park and nearby Wingfield Pines attract thousands of birds. May 11 in National Birding Day and it provides a time for birders to enjoy the spring weather and to glimpse neotropicals on their journey.

•Gilfillan Farm will hold an open house from noon-3 p.m. during Community Day May 18. The barn yard will be open from noon-4 p.m. The scarecrow unveiling will occur at 1 p.m. There will be guided house tours, horse drawn wagon rides, children’s crafts, beekeeping demonstrations, a farm animal petting zoo and snacks.
The open house is sponsored by the Historical Society of Upper St. Clair. The address for the farm is 1950 Washington Road, and use the Orr Road parking lot.
