Tri-County Gas Expo open to public

When the TriCounty Oil & Gas Expo opens May 18, it will be looking to add to its usual audience of business attendees from the region.

This year, as the expo stages its 18th event since the fall of 2007, it’s inviting the public to stop by.

The semi-annual event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Washington County Fairgrounds, has expanded well beyond its October 2007 debut at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

More than 200 indoor and outdoor exhibitors will display their businesses and describe their roles in the region’s gas and coal industries. This year’s event is expected to draw between 2,500 to 3,500 people. Parking at the fairgrounds is free.

“We’re having a public education component with representatives from the Keystone Energy Forum,” said Expo President Pat McCune, one of the original organizers of the event. “There will be videos of the various processes and experts available for questions and answers.”

As with past expos, Saturday’s event will also offer the opportunity for area businesses to connect with those of the oil and gas industries working in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays.

“We have held over a dozen events designed to educate the public, network businesses, and help job seekers find work in the energy industry,” McCune said. “Forty years after the decline of the steel industry, we want our local citizens and communities to have a chance to benefit from responsible development of our nation’s energy resources.”

Exhibitor space is still available. Businesses seeking space are being asked to register at www.tricountyoilandgas.com.

A directory of businesses and organizations active in the Marcellus will be distributed to participants.
