Scott Township officials discussed information about a possible bond issue during the May 14 agenda meeting. Board president Tom Castello said that if the township went with a $4.3 million bond issue, it would result in an additional cost of $170,000 per year over the current debt service. If the municipality decided on a $6 million bond issue, the additional cost per year would be $250,000.

The board is expected to vote on the bond issue at the May 28 regular meeting in order to have enough time to bid and start repairs on Swallow Hill Road, which is badly deteriorated. The cost to repair Swallow Hill Road from Greentree to Scrubgrass roads is estimated at $1.5 million. The board also spoke of using some of the bond issue money on Rockfield Road, with repairs estimated at $222,000.

Contacted after the meeting, township manager Denise Fitzgerald said the balance of the money from the bond issue would be used on other municipal projects. The board has not voted on which projects would be funded by the bond issue.

The board also discussed entering into an agreement with DT Interpreting Services. Scott Police Chief James Secreet said the business agreed to waive its monthly fee of $50 and charge a rate of $1.59 per minute on an as needed basis, which he estimated at about 10 minutes per month. Secreet said the company was able to interpret 150 different languages, noting that with Scott’s increasingly diverse population, “it’s not a bad idea” to have the service available.

In other business, Scott’s leaf and branch collection continues until May 24.
