Scott Township adds several to payroll
Scott Township will soon have a new police officer. In a 7-0 vote at their April 22 regular meeting, commissioners voted to hire Steve Mitrisin as an entry level police officer, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Officer Dave White. Board president David Jason and commissioner Tom Castello were absent.
Mitrisin’s date of hire will be June 1, contingent on his passing physical and psychological evaluations.
The board granted permanent employment status to public works employee James Briggs, who satisfactorily completed his 90 day probation period. The board also approved the hiring of various employees for summer help, including Ron Ellis as supervisor of pool activities, Monica Gigliotti as pool manager, Renee Landy and Mike Switala as assistant pool managers and William Evans as recreation director.
At the same meeting, the board voted to create a veterans’ banner program for Carothers Avenue. Harry Munson of HTM Designs spoke at the commissioners’ April 8 agenda meeting about the banners his company makes to honor veterans. The banners will be on display on Carothers Avenue from Memorial Day to Veterans’ Day and will be installed by Scott’s public works department.
Families who want to honor their loved one can purchase a banner, which measures two feet by three feet, for $35. Township manager Denise Fitzgerald said there will be a link on the township’s website for residents to order their banner. In addition to approving the banner program, the board established a hardship fund of $1,000 for families who wish to honor their veteran but are financially unable to do so.
In other business, the board heard from Tyler Trusiak, a member of Boy Scout troop 834, about his Eagle Scout project. Coordinating his efforts with Scott’s code enforcement officer Bob Fischer, Tyler plans to place decals on sewer drains throughout the township, reminding residents not to put things down the sewer drains. Tyler will provide the manual labor, safety vests and gloves for the project, which he expects to start in late May.
The board also approved proceeding with sheriff sale of properties located at 200 Locust St., 134 Boroview Ave., 209 Magazine St. and 1444 Scrubgrass Road.
