Scores of cats euthanized in Mt. Lebanon
A representative with Big Daddy’s Wildlife Removal said the company was forced to euthanize all but two of the approximately 80 cats found left behind in a house on Pennsylvania Blvd. on Aug. 22. The company representative, who would only identify himself as Paul, said the cats were very ill, had little hair, but plenty of fleas and mangy skin. He said that Animal Friends and other shelters refused to take the majority of the animals, forcing the company to put the cats down.
The unidentified woman who was living in the house at 230 Pennsylvania Blvd. was evicted last month. She may face animal cruelty and other charges after a humane officer’s investigation, Mt. Lebanon police said. The wildlife removal company was hired by the landlord to find and remove the animals after nearby residents complained of a stinking smell emanating from the house.
“Unfortunately, there is no ordinance limiting the number, or even detailing the containment of cats in Mt. Lebanon,” Deputy Chief of Police Aaron Lauth said.
