South Fayette Township re-branding
The website for South Fayette township is getting a fresh coat of paint and rolling out with a new interface the week of Dec. 9.
The website and a newly unveiled logo are part of a re-branding effort from the township in part to help improve its visibility to compete for a designation as an Allegheny County Live Well community in 2015.
“Part of that effort is to promote wellness for township employees and community members,” said manager Ryan Eggleston at the Dec. 4 workshop meeting.
And part of that effort may come from donations to a parks and recreation community fund expected to be approved at the Dec. 10 voting meeting.
“We’re allocating $12,000 in start-up cash (for the non-profit entity) so there’s some base capital there to provide for extra improvements for parks and recreational projects,” Eggleston said of the fund that can accept residents’ donations. The fund will be monitored and advised by the parks and recreation board.
Decisions are also expected at the meeting on tax abatement applications – Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance (LERTA) – from UPMC Children’s Hospital, EBY Sales and Alpine Point.
Eggleston recommended the board of commissioners to approve a one-year extension for Waste Management’s garbage collection contract. The township is continuing its recycling program as it was awarded a $8,460 grant from the Department of Environmental Protection for materials recycled in 2012. The township has had a recycling program with Waste Management since 2002, according to company spokeswoman Erika Deyarmin-Young.
“We may be looking at another service come summer, as we spend a significant portion of our budget on refuse collection. Other townships do it internally, so we may want to revisit this next year,” Eggleston said. Solid waste collection was budgeted at $1,010,056 for 2015, an increase of $86,806 over the 2014 allocation of $923,250.
