7. Joey Fabus, 8, sworn in as Bethel Park police officer for a day
An 8-year-old Bethel Park boy’s dream to become a police officer came true on June 24. He issued a traffic citation, he testified before District Judge Ron Arnoni about the reason for the stop, and even did a security walk-through of the Bethel Park Community Center. Sadly, the events of the emotional day played out because Fabus was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and his prognosis is grave. The community has rallied around Joey and his family, and since his day as a Bethel Park officer, he’s been afforded opportunities that few others have – including riding in the Batmobile during Bethel Park Community Day and receiving a proclamation from the City of Pittsburgh.
