After the Snowball Dance at Peters Township High School – a fundraiser for the cheerleading booster club – was cut short due to students twerking, school board member William Merrell suggested at the next board meeting that students should take dance lessons to learn appropriate dance moves and social graces. The story went viral, as did the hashtag #LetPetersTwerk. One month later, it was announced that a free dance lesson for students and other members of the community would take place at Arthur Murray Dance Studio. The lesson was postponed due to lack of interest – only two students, sisters, signed up for the class. Some nine months later, the class has yet to be rescheduled.
