Bethel Park police are beefing up security at South Hills Village mall in response to an armed robbery that took place shortly before 10 p.m. Dec. 29 outside the venue’s loading dock, said Detective Lance Mattes.

According to police reports, two females, both of whom work at the mall, had just left a food court restaurant when they were approached by a young black man armed with a black, semi-automatic handgun. The suspect removed a purse from the shoulder from one of the females who had an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as in his early 20s, 5 feet, 5 inches tall. At the time of the robbery, the man was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans.

Det. Mattes said they are not releasing the name of the restaurant and said the incident is being treated as an armed robbery because a gun was involved. If anyone has related information on this robbery or the identity of the suspect, call the Bethel Park police at 412-833-2000.
