Mayor Allen recognizes two BP teachers

By Susan Schmeichel 1 min read

In one of his first acts as Bethel Park mayor, Jack Allen, on Jan. 13 recognized the first recipients of his “You Can Make a Difference Award.”

Two Bethel Park High School music teachers were recognized for their contributions to the students and the community.

Allen explained that he attended the high school Christmas concert and was impressed with the groups under the direction of Todd Kuczawa, vocal director, and Chad Thompson, instrumental director. The mayor said he wanted to recognize the contributions of the two teachers and the way their work with the students helped to instilling the holiday spirit in the community.

The newly-elected mayor explained that he is hoping to use the new program to recognize volunteers or anyone that does something to make the municipality a better place to live. He asked that anyone who would like to nominate a resident for the recognition to contact him at the municipal offices.

The winners of the annual holiday lighting contest were also recognized during the mayor’s report.

At a recent reorganization meeting, council president Tim Moury was re-elected to the position as head of the council and councilman James Hannon was elected vice president.
