Living history

Woodville Plantation, Bridgeville, will host “Where Lived a Family of Negroes” from 1-4 p.m. Aug. 3. Join Temujin Ekunfeo, Woodville’s African American historian, as he examines the music and diversions of the Enslaved Community of Woodville Plantation. Explore the interesting and unique instruments that were utilized by the working members of Woodville Plantation. The program will begin at 2 p.m. and admission for this special event is $10/person ($5 for members) and includes a tour of the house. Reservations are not required. Regular house tours will be conducted throughout the day as well with the standard admission prices applying.

Admission is $5/adults, $3/children age 6-12 and free for children under age 6. Admission includes exhibit and house tour.

Concert series

Allegheny Brass Band will perform 2:30-4 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Bethel Park Community Center as part of Bethel Park’s 2014 Tower Concert Series. The performance will include music from classics to opera and popular music from the Big Band era through today. The concert is free and seating is limited.

Summer festival

At St. Valentine Church, Bethel Park, its Summer Festival will take place Aug. 6-9. Dinner and music begins at 6 p.m. There will be rides, games and raffles.

Summer concert

B Street Band, tribute band to Bruce Springstein and the E Street Band, will perform 7-9 p.m. Aug. 6 at Peterswood Park’s outdoor amphitheatre as part of Peters Township Parks & Rec free summer concert series. Night of Fun

A registration deadline of Aug. 18 has been set for Game Ball “Night of Fun,” 6-8 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Peters Township Rec Center. This event for boys ages 3-12 and their mothers, grandmothers or aunts will include dancing with the disc jockey, dinner and inflatable tosses. Wear your favorite jersey or shirt. Photos are available for an additional fee. Cost is $40/couple for residents ($15 each additional child) or $60/couple for non-residents ($23 each additional child). Nutrition workshop

Metamorphosis Center, McMurray, will host a weekend-long nutrition workshop, Nutrition Reboot, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 16 and 17. Along with nutrition, participants will learn how to refresh their cooking skills, rejuvenate their fitness and relaxation levels, re-assess their dietary and lifestyle goals, and re-imagine life’s possibilities. All topics will be taught through an approach that includes scientific truths, physical activity and lessons on human anatomy. The cost for the weekend is $225 and space is limited. Cancer transition program

St. Clair Hospital and Our Clubhouse are collaborating to conduct a Cancer Transition program for patients with cancer who have recently completed treatment. The six-week program begins 5:30 p.m. Aug. 27 and meets every Wednesday, through Oct. 1 at the Carnegie Borough Building on One Veterans Way. The free program offers 30 minutes of light aerobic activity, followed by a presentation from different disciplines on various aspects of cancer survivorship. Light refreshments will be served and all participants will receive a workbook and pedometer. Deadline for registering is Aug. 14.
