South Park resident among those missing on Malaysia Airlines flight
South Park resident Mei Ling Chng is among the nearly 240 passengers of the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370. According to a statement on the Malaysia Airlines website, the plane took off from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lampur at 12:44 a.m. March 8. It was scheduled to arrive in Beijing, China at 6:30 a.m. that same day, however at about 1:30 a.m., air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane as it was flying over the sea between Malaysia and Vietnam.
According to the Flight MH370 passenger manifest, Chng is from Malaysia and is 33 years old. She works as a senior process engineer for Flexys America in Monongahela. The company manufactures and distributes chemicals for rubber processing and related industries. Chng’s LinkedIn profile states that she has worked for the company since 2005. Flexys operates in the United States, Africa, Europe and the Asia Pacific.
“We are saddened to hear the news of the disappearance and apparent crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 and the possible fate of the 239 passengers and crew members aboard,” said Tracy Kilgore, a spokeswoman for Eastman Chemical Company, the parent company for Flexys America.
“Of particular concern to us is an Eastman Team member, Mei Ling Chng, who is confirmed to have been on the flight,” she said. “All of us at Eastman are deeply shocked and saddened by this and our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families of those on the flight and especially to the family of our friend and co-worker.”
According to a statement on the Malaysia Airlines website, it is deploying an additional aircraft to bring the families from Beijing to Kuala Lampur. The airline is also working to establish a Response Coordination Center once the airline is located. The company is also working on bringing family members from other countries to the area.
