South Fayette taking applications for school resource officer

By Deana Carpenter 2 min read

South Fayette Township commissioners voted March 19 to authorize manager Ryan Eggleston to distribute a proposed intergovernmental agreement to the South Fayette School District for a school resource officer.

The district was awarded a grant for a resource officer, which is to be a township police officer.

The position has been posted within the police department and interviews are being conducted. It is anticipated the officer would start before the end of the current school year.

The board also voted to advertise for bids for the 2014 summer paving program. Roads included in the plan are Lawnshadow Drive, Greenwood Drive to the entrance to Fairview Park, Woodhaven Drive and Firwood Drive. Those roads will be milled and paved. Parks Road, West Bridge Drive and Bowman Road are scheduled to be tarred and chipped this summer.

In other business,

• The board approved the land development/site plan for Phase I of the Newbury Market Development.

• Commissioners approved advertising for a part-time community development director. The position was budgeted for in the township’s budget at a salary of $19,000.

• Three members were appointed to the township’s board of standards. They are: Mark Sipos, Richard Jones and Terry Kuhn. South Fayette is continuing to accept applications for one opening on the planning commission and an opening for an alternate member of the zoning hearing board. Applications will continue to be accepted until April 2.
