Upper St. Clair Township Commissioners were in a cleaning mood on May 5 when they approved some “housekeeping” revisions to its construction and fire prevention codes, and approved the purchase of a new street sweeper.

Commissioners voted unanimously to update their construction and fire prevention codes to incorporate amendments to the Uniform Construction Code, which is also known as the Pennsylvania Statewide Building Code.

Scott Brilhart, community development director for the township, explained to commissioners before the vote that “the proposed textual revisions to the Township Code, which are strictly housekeeping items, will provide unification between township and state requirements.”

Commissioners also approved the purchase of a 2014 Elgin Whirlwind Street Sweeper from A&H Equipment of Bridgeville, in the amount of $278,825. Mark Mansfield, assistant township manager, said the township’s current street sweeper will be sold to another municipality for $40,000. He said commissioners did not have to vote to approve the sale.

Also approved was the purchase of dump truck outfitting unit that includes a computer controlled salt dispensing system for $43,950 from Walsh Equipment of Prospect, Pa. Mansfield said the outfitting of the truck is more expensive than the cab and chassis, which had been previously approved and was on order for about $35,000.

In other business on May 5, the commissioners also approved a resolution recognizing National Emergency Services Week on May 18-24.
