Water line work closes Boyce Road through December
Following at least three water main breaks on Boyce Road the week of Oct. 27, Pennsylvania American Water crews are installing 1,000 feet of new pipe along Boyce between Mayview and Hunting Ride Roads in South Fayette.
“Construction of the $900,000 project will begin Nov. 3…the water main is in addition to the approximately 100 feet of new ductile iron pipe installed during the main breaks (from Oct. 27-29),” spokesman Gary Lobaugh said. “Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The company plans to complete water main installation, transfer of customer services, and open the roadway by early December,” Lobaugh said.
Crews originally worked to repair a 36″ line after about 200 people were left without water or low pressure. The line ruptured around 5 a.m. Oct. 27, buckling Boyce Road.
“Customers (were affected) in the following areas: Collier Township, Cuddy, Oakdale, South Fayette Township, Upper St. Clair, Bridgeville and surrounding areas. Customers (were served) with a water buffalo staged at Boyce Plaza off of Boyce Road to fill for drinking water, and there was an additional buffalo stationed at the 7/11 on Boyce Road,” spokeswoman Josephine Posti said.
For detours, Lobaugh reccomends southbound motorists to take Washington Pike/Morganaza Road, east on McMurray Road, and north on PA State Route 19 back to Boyce Road. Northbound motorists are advised to use the same detour in reverse.
