A PennDOT District 11 representative said paving operations on the southbound I-79 ramps at the Carnegie (Exit 57) interchange in Collier Township, will occur Sept. 2-3, weather permitting.

Paving will go on from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. each night. Both ramps will close to traffic and motorists will be detoured.

The southbound to West Main Street detour has drivers taking Exit 54 (Bridgeville), turning right onto Route 50, then back onto the northbound I-79 ramp to the Carnegie interchange.

For drivers coming from West Main Street, PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said motorists should follow northbound I-79 to the Crafton/Moon exit (60) off of Route 60. Then, turn left onto Steubenville Pike (Route 60). Take the ramp to I-79 southbound toward Washington and back to the Carnegie interchange.

“This work is part of a $2.84 million improvement project – work includes milling and resurfacing, bridge deck sealing and other miscellaneous construction in each direction on 4.8 miles of I-79 between the Bridgeville (Exit 54) interchange and Campbells Run Road overpass in Robinson Township. Additionally, milling and resurfacing work will occur on the Heidelberg/Collier (Exit 55) and Carnegie (Exit 57) interchange ramps,” Cowan said.
