Three teens arrested in apparent random attack in California
Three teenage boys were arrested early Sunday by California police after an apparent random assault on three men and a woman on a borough street.
Kayne Michael Jackson, 19, of 1110 Reservoir Ave., Monessen, Tyler Laroyal Yuille, 19, of 635 McKee Ave., Monessen, and a 14-year-old Donora boy face four counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault, ethnic intimidation, harassment, disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment for their alleged attack on the four people.
When California police arrived about 1:20 a.m., they found the four victims bleeding from their faces and heads. The four told police their attackers came out of nowhere.
Two of the male victims told police they were walking from a diner on Second Street, on their way home. All four victims live in the McMurray or Venetia area. One of the four is a student at California University of Pennsylvania.
The four told police they were at the intersection of Second and Union streets and turned a corner into a dimly lit area when three to four black males approached them and began punching them in the head. The four victims, who are white, fell to the ground, and they said the assailants then kicked them repeatedly.
The victims said before losing consciousness, they were able to see what their attackers were wearing. When a crew from Brownsville Ambulance arrived, they told police they saw a man matching the description given by the victims on Third Street Extension.
Borough and university police searched the area. At the crime scene, an officer found a puddle of blood on the ground. Near the blood was a silver-studded diamond earring. Also found nearby was a black ball cap.
Police found the three suspects, later identified as Jackson, Yuille and the juvenile, near Rotary Park. One of the three, identified as Yuille, had blood covering his hands and a large laceration on the palm of his left hand, police said. He also was wearing a diamond stud earring in his right ear. Police said it appeared an earring was missing from his other ear.
One of the victims was transported to the park. Police said he was able to positively identify each suspect in police custody as being involved in the attack.
While at the police station, Yuille started complaining about his hand injury. He was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment before his arraignment.
Police said Jackson later admitted it was his ball cap found near the scene.
The four victims were taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Jackson and Yuille were arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bonds. Their preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 22 before District Judge Joshua Kanalis.
The 14-year-old was charged in a juvenile allegation. He was taken to the Jefferson County (Ohio) Juvenile Detention Center by Washington County sheriff’s deputies.
