The owner of Open German Italian Flair in Venetia will open a second location of his popular fusion restaurant later this year at the site of the former Center Plate Restaurant in McMurray, according to Peters Township documents.

The meeting minutes of a recent Peters Township Planning Commission show that Open German Italian Flair owner Salvatore Plescia wants to add on to the former Center Plate site, 94 Center Church Road, for a restaurant. Ed Zuk, township planning director, said that the addition, which would be made to the front of the building, would be small, totaling around 740 square feet.

Documents show that Plescia plans to renovate the first floor of the building for a restaurant, while the second floor will be used as a rental apartment.

Plescia could not be reached for comment. The township will hold a public hearing April 13 on Plescia’s request for an inter-municipal liquor license transfer from Primo Inc. in North Strabane Township.

Open German Italian Flair’s Venetia location on Sugar Run Road is located in the same building as the Venetia Post Office and has proven to be popular with area diners. The menu of the cozy Venetia eatery has both popular German and Italian dishes, such as sauerbraten and fettuccini Alfredo. This location does not serve alcohol, but diners can bring their own wine.

According to the township, Plescia wants to add a 528-square-foot addition to the Venetia location. Initially, he wants to add a covered patio to the building, and eventually enclose it. This addition would have siding, a pitched roof and would be attached to the front of the restaurant. The main door to the restaurant would be moved to the addition. Plescia also wants to add 12 new parking spaces.
