Three arrested at Bethel Park WalMart

By Suzanne Elliott 2 min read

Bethel Park police arrested a Pittsburgh man, as well as a man who claimed to be homeless, for trying to buy electronics with stolen credit cards at the WalMart on Library Road. At the same time, a third man, who was separately stealing merchandise from the store, fled the scene.

According to reports, police were called to the scene when store security saw Ian Cherico, 31, no address, and Ryan Murtaugh, 31, of Carrick, using multiple credit cards on the afternoon of April 1.

Robert Decamp, 40, of Bethel Park, who was in the midst of shop lifting several items, thought police were after him when they arrived. He jumped into a black Mustang and allegedly drove away at a high rate of speed, almost striking a police officer. Decamp was later found on Railroad Street in Bethel Park and charged with felony retail theft and taken to the Allegheny County Jail, where he is being held on a $10,000 bond. He has a preliminary hearing April 16 before District Justice Ron Arnoni.

Cherico and Murtaugh are being charged with retail access device theft, said Bethel Park police Chief Timothy O’Connor. Cherico is also being charged with public intoxication, possession of heroin and retail theft. Murtaugh is also charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Both Cherico and Murtaugh were taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Murtaugh was released on a $5,000, or 10 percent bond. Cherico, meanwhile, remains incarcerated and is being held on an $8,000 cash bond. They both have preliminary hearings April 16 before District Justice Arnoni.
