Madison Kerr of McMurray helped the Western PA Bruins U17 Team win the U.S. Junior National girls’ basketball championship this summer in Washington, D.C.

The Peters Township senior is a 1,000-point scorer in her scholastic career. A guard, she garnered all-section honors while averaging 16.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, four assists and two steals a game for the Lady Indians. In addition to being an Almanac Elite Eleven performer, Kerr was a finalist for the newspaper’s Athlete of the Year campaign. A two-sport standout, Kerr captained the volleyball squad, too. A 4.46 honors student, Kerr is a member of student council and the National Honor Society. She participates in a medical mentorship at Washington Hospital and hopes to one day become a nurse anesthetist.

Kerr was one of five area athletes on the club. The others included: Becca Turney from Canon-McMillan; MacKenzie Bushee from Mt. Lebanon, Carlee Kilgus from South Fayette and Justina Mascaro from Bethel Park.

A senior forward, Turney recently committed to Eastern Michigan. Bushee, Kilgus and Mascaro were first-team all-section performers for their respective high school teams. All three will graduate in 2017.

The other team members included: Haley Zeiss, Abby Gonzales and Dayna Rouse. Former Chartiers Valley and Seton-La Salle head coach Spencer Stefko coached the club. He will coach at North Allegheny High School this season.
