Tambellini’s to close in Bridgeville

Tambellini’s, a longtime fixture on Railroad Street in Bridgeville is closing at the end of the year, and a combination microbrewery and restaurant called The Railyard will go into the location.
The last day of business for Tambellini’s, which has been in operation for 30 years, will be Dec. 31. Dan Tambellini, the owner, said he is retiring and has sold the building to an Upper St. Clair investment group. They take over the property Jan. 1.
“My kids did not have any interest in taking over the business,” Tambellini said. “I hit 30 years in the business and I am going to take life easier.”
Tambellini said he is investigating the possibility of marketing his signature pasta sauces and salad dressings.
In recent months, the South Hills area has become a beer mecca of sorts. The Railyard will be the third brewery planned for the South Hills that is anticipated to open in 2016. Already, a brewery has been announced for the former McGinnis Market in Castle Shannon, which is expected to open in mid-2016. And plans were announced earlier this month for a Canonsburg microbrew pub and restaurant called Rusty Gold Brewing, planned for the former Toy’s My Way Café.
Also, Insurrection AleWorks recently opened in Heidelberg, joining Spoonwood Brewing Co. in Bethel Park and Hitchhiker Brewing in Mt. Lebanon, as existing South Hills breweries.
