Basketball game proceeds to benefit Aiden Zangrilli
Aiden Zangrilli, the 2-year-old from South Park under going treatment at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC for acute myeloid leukemia (AML, marker 5) is facing another six to nine months in the hospital, according to the family.
The family said the disease has returned to his limbs. Aiden, the son of Tony Zangrilli and grandson of Kim and Ralph Zangrilli, all of South Park, must now undergo two additional rounds of chemotherapy, which requires the additional hospitalization. Aiden was diagnosed with leukemia Dec. 1.
Both Kim and Tony Zangrilli have taken leaves of absence from their jobs. To help the family with Aiden’s growing medical bills, a Go Fund Me site has been established in Aiden’s name. As of Feb. 13, the site has raised $2,725.
In addition, proceeds from both the men’s and women’s basketball games between Point Park University and Carlow University at the CCAC-South gym in West Mifflin scheduled for Feb. 18 will be donated to the family to help offset Aiden’s medical expenses. Admission is $4. Plus, representatives from Be The Match, the national marrow donor program, will be at the game to screen potential donors.
