PAWC spending $822K on pipeline repairs in Washington County

Pennsylvania American Water will spend more than $800,000 to replace about two miles of aging pipelines in several Washington County communities.

The company announced Thursday that it will begin work this spring to install the new water lines on Cheri Drive in Peters Township, Zelt Drive in North Franklin, Vermont Avenue in South Strabane and Church Street in Midway. Crews will also be working on a line along Greenwood Drive in South Fayette.

James Jericho, Pennsylvania American Water’s project manager, said the company is working on “proactive replacement” to prevent emergency repairs that could cause greater disruptions to customers.

“These new mains will ensure reliable water service and improve fire flows in some of Washington County’s oldest neighborhoods,” Jericho said.

Pipe installation will begin in the spring with service connections and road paving expected to be finished by the fall, company official said. The project is estimated to cost $822,000.

Customers on streets that will have pipeline repairs might experience temporary service disruptions, discolored water and low water pressure during construction, water officials said.

Anyone affected by outages is encouraged to contact Pennsylvania American Water’s customer service center at 800-565-7292.
