South Fayette considers another residential development
It’s the hilly, diverse topography not available in Pittsburgh or already-developed suburbs that builders are seeking in South Fayette. That’s the word from Laurel Developers’ Marty Gillespie, who pitched to the board of commissioners at their Jan. 14 workshop meeting a 92-lot residential community along Old Oakdale Road less than a mile from the school district.
A public hearing on the plan that would be called Pinnacle Point will be held at the Jan. 21 voting meeting. Concerns raised from residents and township engineer Mike Benton included peak-time volume of school bus traffic and having an entrance so close to, or, part of a sharp bend in the 1000 block of Old Oakdale Road. Intersections with traffic lights or stop signs were mentioned as early potential fixes.
“Pinnacle Point would have a walking trail system throughout the neighborhood, a park with a gazebo, a covered bus stop for kids … no vinyl (siding) would be used in this development. Things like dimensional shingles, stone; brick. It will set it apart from other plans that have been built so far,” Gillespie said.
In other business, the township received its first formal proposal from Burns and Scalo to develop the former Star City movie theater site next to UPMC Children’s South on Miller’s Run. The details will be discussed at the voting meeting. The board will also be voting on a new public works teamsters union contract, which manager Ryan Eggleston said will more effectively tackle legacy costs.
“This draft proposal has each employee paying a portion of their healthcare premiums, where that wasn’t the case in the past. And anyone hired after this contract would be contributing up to 14 percent,” Eggleston said.
