The only formal request for proposal received by South Fayette township to develop the abandoned Star City site on Millers Run Road has come from Burns and Scalo, but lacks specifics on finances.

“I’d like to put the request for proposal documents out there again to get more bids,” said commissioner Ray Pitetti.

“I’m also for sending it out again. But I’ve been for outright sale since the beginning,” said commissioner Jessica Cardillo-Wagenhoffer.

No official vote was taken at the Jan. 21 meeting, but the board of commissioners said they would seek more interested developers in the meantime while manager Ryan Eggleston said there should be provisions to allow extensions of leases.

In other business, the board tabled a vote approving a conditional use plan for developers seeking to build a residential community called Pinnacle Point along Old Oakdale Road.

A packed audience expressed a mixture of support and skepticism.

“I’m 100 percent for Pinnacle Point,” said Nick Rodi, “I know Marty (Gillespie). He built my house and he’ll do a professional job.”

“My husband and I have had to drive our son several times to school. Putting a stop sign (on Old Oakdale Road) would be disastrous near that sharp bend,” said Natalie Kugler.

At least four others expressed concerns with stormwater runoff and flooding.

“It’s our intent in our design to prevent major runoff,” said Mike Salai with Wind Ridge Engineering.

“The Conservation District, the Department of Environmental Protection, this board of commissioners – they all have to review our detention basins, the piping … we’re designing that both streets in the development capture runoff,” said Marty Gillespie, president of Heartland Homes.
