Gregory Harbaugh, Dr. David Parda, State Rep. Rick Saccone, Mayor Jack Allen, Dr. Chong Park, Emily Parise, Dr. Matthew Portz, David Holmberg, Louise Urban and John Paul were on hand to cut the ribbon at the newly-expanded Bethel Park Health + Wellness Pavilion.

Officials of Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network, along with elected South Hills officials, celebrated the opening July 8 of the healthcare provider’s new $17 million expansion of its Bethel Park Health + Wellness Pavilion on Higbee Road.

“Well-designed, state-of-the-art surgery centers and multi-disciplinary outpatient care centers like the one we are opening today are the very definition of patient-focused care providing patients with highly personalized care in the right place, at the right time and at the right cost,” John Paul, president and CEO of the Allegheny Health Network, said during the opening festivities.

“We are proud to offer the people of Bethel Park and surrounding communities such an exceptional new option for their comprehensive healthcare needs,” Paul said.

The 35,000-square-foot freestanding addition features a new ambulatory surgery center with three operating rooms and two gastrointestinal procedure rooms, plus a branch of the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute and expanded primary care services for residents of the South Hills.

“Our objective is to put caregivers where they can give the best outcome,” said David Holmberg, president and CEO of Highmark Health.

Paul said the future of healthcare is outside the traditional hospital and more at facilities, like the network’s health center at the site of Cool Springs Golf Course.

The new center also offers access to a variety of women’s healthcare services, including a Pelvic Health Institute, the Midlife Women’s Associates OBGYN practice, additional obstetrics and gynecology specialists, psychology and counseling services, women’s rehabilitation and lymphedema services and a Women’s Sleep Center.

The other two buildings at the network’s Bethel Park campus, built in 2003, includes additional primary, specialty and diagnostic healthcare services, including a wound care and hyperbaric center, cardiology services, orthopedic care, laboratory services, as well as the offices of South Pittsburgh Urology Associates.

“The Allegheny Health Network is an important part of Bethel Park,” said Bethel Park Mayor Jack Allen.

Highmark entered as strategic partnership with Jefferson Regional Medical Center in 2012 and acquired the center in 2013. The Bethel Park healthcare campus had been owned by Mercy Life Care Corp. before being bought by Jefferson Medical in 2008.

“Providing care to where the people are is paramount,” said Chong Park, Jefferson’s chief medical officer. “The mountain has come to the patient.”
