Accident damages Sun Chevrolet Corvettes
Corvettes at Sun Chevrolet on Washington Road had to be repaired because a nearby car accident left them sprayed with asphalt.
The tire tracks following an accident at Sun Chevrolet on Washington Road that sprayed asphalt on several Corvettes.
Four 2014 pre-owned Chevrolet Corvettes parked outside of Sun Chevrolet on Washington Road in McMurray were damaged July 13 when an Upper St. Clair motorist struck the rear of another vehicle and spun out of control, spraying fresh asphalt onto the dealership’s newly purchased sports cars, Peters Township police said.
According to police, Barbara Van Osdol, 73, of Bingham Drive, failed to stop her vehicle when another vehicle driven by Madeline Lytle, 19, of Second Avenue, slowed to make a right-hand turn into the dealership. Police said the impact of the collision caused the vehicle driven by Van Osdol to spin over fresh asphalt and caused it to spray onto the Corvettes. Neither woman was hurt, but both vehicles involved in the accident had to be towed.
Roch Curinga, general manager of Sun Chevrolet, estimated damage to the cars at around $2,000. The asphalt was a result of repairs made to a water line break the night before, he said.
The cars were purchased for a special event the dealership was planning, Curinga said. The sticker on a 2016 Corvette parked at the dealership was $99,260.
This accident marks the second time this week that Sun Chervolet has been in the news. On July 12, Eric Logan of Athens, Ga. stole a sedan as the owner of the vehicle stopped at the dealership to inquire about buying an automobile. Logan later nearly drove the stolen car into a helicopter that was preparing to take off from St. Clair Hospital.
