Rocky Bleier to headline Veterans picnic
Vietnam veteran and former Pittsburgh Steeler Rocky Bleier will headline Rep. Rick Saccone’s (R-Allegheny/Washington) fourth annual Veterans Appreciation Picnic, 1 p.m. July 25 at the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department in South Park.
“Each year, I host this event to honor the men and women who so faithfully served our country in uniform,” Saccone said. “Veterans deserve our honor and respect. Every freedom we hold dear was purchased with the blood, sweat and tears of patriots who placed country above self.”
Bleier, who was the Steelers’ fourth-leading ground gainer and contributed to four Super Bowl victories, was severely injured by enemy fire during the Vietnam conflict. He will share his inspiring story about how he overcame his wounds to achieve success in the NFL.
Also speaking at the event will be Brig. Gen. Anthony Carrelli, deputy adjunct general of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard.
The event is free and open to all veterans living in the 39th District and their guests. Attendees must register in advance at www.repsaccone.com or by calling 412-653-1025.
