Get ready to rev it up on July 26 at the South Park Fairgrounds.

The annual Bethel Park Rev’em Up for Kids car cruise fund raiser will be bigger than ever, said Jim Gastgeb, director of the event and president of the Bethel Park Recreation Board. More than 4,000 people attended last year’s event, which raised $20,000 for Bethel Park’s recreation programs.

For this year’s event, sponsored by Pasta Too!, which runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. rain or shine, attendees will be able to look at 1,000 cars, ranging from the classic Model T to muscle cars and even futuristic vehicles.

“There will be something for everyone from infants to seniors,” Gastgeb said. “One hundred years worth of cars. We will have it all. It’s a gathering of car enthusiasts.”

The car cruise will have food and merchandise vendors. Gastgeb said there will be a variety of vendors selling wares from handmade goods and jewelry to car wax. A special children’s area will have face painting, inflatable bounce slides and houses, as well as an area for games. Iceburgh, the Pittsburgh Penguins mascot, will be making an appearance. And there will be special interest vehicles on hand for the children to see. Plus, Eat ‘n Park has donated Smiley Face cookies for the children, and the Bethel Park police department will be on hand to fingerprint children, Gastgeb said.

The event’s headliner is Johnny Angel and The Halos. The band will perform from 1 to 2 p.m. and again from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., he said. There will also be a disc jockey.

The cost of the event is $5 per car and $5 for adults. Anyone age 17 and under can come for free.
