Peters pastor elected bishop of Lutheran district
McMURRAY – The Rev. Jamison Hardy, pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Peters Township and a member of Peters Township School Board, has been elected bishop-president of the English District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
“I am very humbled by this,” said Hardy, 41, who will be formally installed in his new position in September. “One of the goals I have is to restore hope and show the church still has purpose.”
The English District, based in Kirkwood, Mo., is one of 35 districts that are part of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, a traditional confessional Lutheran denomination with 2.2 million members. It is also the second-largest Lutheran denomination in the United States.
In his new position, Hardy said he expects to travel extensively. He plans to remain associated with Peace Lutheran Church as a part-time senior pastor. Peace Lutheran, which has 220 members, was formed in May 2008 through the merger of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Mt. Lebanon and Hope Lutheran Church of Upper St. Clair.
What remains uncertain at this point is whether he will remain on the school board. Hardy has been a member of the board since 2013 and was a past president of McMurray Rotary Club.
Hardy declined to comment on that, but said he has a lot of work to do on the board and he is not scheduled to assume his new post until September.
Hardy, a Michigan native, and his wife, Wendy, have lived in Peters Township for 14 years along with their three children, Noah, Nathaniel and Naomi.
