South Fayette school board members indicated at their June 23 meeting future construction and accelerating growth were factors in passing a $49 million spending budget for 2015-16 that increases property tax rates by 0.9 mils. The millage rate of 26.1168 increases property taxes by $90 for every $100,000 a home is worth, leaving residents paying $2,611 for a home at that value.

“None of us want to raise taxes, but we have explosive growth, average 100 kids added each year, so I don’t know how we keep up fiscally in the next couple of years with construction looming; it’s unfortunate, but we have to act,” said board member Len Fornella.

Superintendent Billie Rondinelli said enrollment had reached 2,931 as of June 23, and the district is projecting 3,000 students at some point in 2015.
