BP’s public works building under scrutiny
Bethel Park’s aging public works building may need to be repaired or replaced and municipal council will consider hiring an architect to study the issue at its regular meeting April 13.
“The easiest thing for us to do is to build a new facility, but we will give you a menu of options to see what fits your budget, your schedule and the needs of Bethel Park,” Mark Edelmann of EPM Architecture said at the municipal committee meeting Monday.
The Bradford Woods architecture firm submitting a proposal to conduct a feasibility study on the building to determine its structural deficiencies and suggest ways to fix it.
Edelmann said the study could be completed in about 2 to 3 months. Board president Timothy Moury said the municipality would not likely begin a building project until mid 2016, especially since the municipality is currently building a new fire station.
Cost for the feasibility study will be $45,000, which will go toward any architectural fees if the borough decides to use EPM for any building project.
In another matter, the board hired A. Liberoni for the roads program this summer. The Pittsburgh construction company will pave and repair numerous road in the municipality at a cost of $1.4 million.
