High school graduation classes sometimes see one or maybe two Boy Scouts receiving their diploma, but it is seldom seen that 10 classmates walk out of the district as fellow Eagle Scouts. Only 6 percent of registered scouts across America earned their Eagle rank in 2014, according to Scouting Magazine.

South Fayette Superintendent Dr. Billie Rondinelli said the high school principal will recognize the 10 students at the district’s June 5 graduation ceremony in part of a speech.

“Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout is an outstanding and prestigious achievement,” she said. “We are very proud to have 10 of our students that have earned this status through the Boy Scouts of America Program. While this program is independent of the school, it speaks to the high calibre of these young men and their excellent accomplishments.” Here are the students sharing the honor.

Jeremy Carter, who earned his Eagle rank in 2014 with Troop 248, mapped and painted the 77 fire hydrants in Oakdale for his Eagle Project.

Brian Kelley, who attained Eagle rank in 2010 with Troop 228 in Bethel Park, built a sign and did landscape work for Independence Middle School.

Matthew Speidel earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2014 with Troop 2 in Bridgeville by working with Holy Child Parish Music Ministry to develop an electronic database of the choir’s music.

Nathaniel Fuller, also earning his Eagle rank with Troop 2 in 2014, worked with the nonprofit Paddle Without Pollution to clean four miles of Chartiers Creek in Upper St. Clair and South Fayette. Nate coordinated efforts with volunteers to remove over 5,000 pounds of debris from the creek.

Wyatt Mauti, earning his Eagle Scout merit in 2014 with Troop 2, completed his Eagle project by turning the embankment beside the Bridgeville Public Library parking into a butterfly garden full of wildflowers.

Neel and Ray Bishop, twin brothers who earned their ranks in 2014, both completed separate projects. Neel planted over 1,500 daffodils and bluebell bulbs along a hiking trail in the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden in Oakdale. Ray, in the meantime, refurbished a large gazebo in Morgan Park.

Daniel Fisher Jr. earned his rank in 2014 with Troop 2, completing his project after building an outdoor Stations of the Cross at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cecil.

Gavin Allcorn just earned his Eagle rank in 2015 with Troop 2 after he built an event sign for the First United Presbyterian Church of Rennerdale.

Nicholas Karafilis, who also just earned his Eagle Rank this year as part of Troop 2, coordinated a four-day Disney-themed educational camp for children in the Hill District through FOCUS, a Greek Orthodox outreach program.

Of note, Brian Kelley earned his Eagle Scout rank when he was only 13, and Matt Speidel is the only active BSA member still serving as a junior scout master.
