Girl Scout recruitment
The Bethel Central Service Unit will host a Girl Scout Recruitment Party 6-7 p.m. Oct. 21 in the basement of Bethany Lutheran Church. The Yahve-Jire Children’s Foundation (US), formed by South Hills residents, serves its sister foundation in Haiti, helping to support an orphanage in Port A Prince that cares for 22 children. Penguin tickets
Bishop Canevin Girls’ Volleyball is holding a fundraiser. For a $10 donation, participants will have the chance at two tickets to the last 20 regular season games for the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2015-16 season. Winners will be drawn at halftime of the Dec. 15 boys’ basketball varsity game at Bishop Canevin High School. Attendance is not required to win. Halloween Trail
Canonsburg Hospital will host its annual free Halloween Trail 4-5:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at the hospital’s outdoor walking trail. Children are invited to dress in their favorite costume and wander along the one-mile trail to meet the many “haunted” hosts. Treats and bags provided. In the event of inclement weather, the Halloween Trail will be held indoors.
Halloween Night Walk
Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation and the McDonald Area Redevelopment Association will sponsor a Halloween Night Walk on the Panhandle Trail, 7-8 p.m. Oct. 23. “Tricks and treats” will be provided to children ages 11 and under along the walk. Trail of Terror
Pitcher Memorial Skatepark volunteers and the Borough of Carnegie will transform Carnegie Park on Forsythe Road into a Trail of Terror, 7-11 p.m. Oct. 23-24. Cost is $10/person. There will be a pumpkin patch and prizes for the younger children. Cost is $5. Keystone Oaks High School art class students will be hand, painting and selling pumpkins.
‘The Secret Garden’

Halloween dance
The South Fayette Band Alumni Association will sponsor a Halloween Dance 7-11 p.m. Oct. 24 at the SNPJ Club, Bridgeville, featuring the Dave Iglar Band. Doors open at 6 and costumes are encouraged. A Computer and Electronic Device Recycling Event hosted by Commonwealth Computer Recycling will take place 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library. On-site hard drive shredding will be performed by CyberCrunch at a donation of $10 per hard drive. A portion of the proceeds benefit Mt. Lebanon Library. Small appliances will also be accepted. Speaker event
Westminster Recreation and Outreach Center, Upper St. Clair, will offer a free speaker event, Civil War Pittsburgh, 7-8 p.m. Oct. 27. Mary Frailey Calland will discuss the story behind the writing of “Consecrated Dust” and the pivotal role Civil War Pittsburgh played in preserving the union through photographs and illustrations. ‘Dance or Die’
Lyndsey Nagy, a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School, will be assisting in the dance production of Pitt Dance Ensembles’ 2015 Fall show, “Dance or Die!,” on Oct. 27-28 in the Studio Theatre in the basement of the Cathedral of Learning. The Halloween-themed informal show is free to all Pitt students and $5 for the general public. A Q&A with the choreographers will take place after the show.
Film festival
The Pittsburgh Jewish Film Forum co-present the 3rd annual ReelAbilities Film Festival Oct. 22-29, showcasing films about the lives, stories and artistic expression of people with different disabilities. All will take place at Rodef Shalom Congregation, Shadyside. All films begin at 7 p.m, are recommended for ages 13+, and will be followed by receptions. An art exhibit featuring work by Rick Guidotti and Martha Rial will be displayed in the Rodef Shalom commons area.
