South Fayette Township will hold its first Community Day in 10 years on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Fairview Park.

“It’s a great way to bring the community together,” said Paula Simmons, township parks and recreation director, who pushed for the annual celebration to be restarted.

Planning for this year’s event began in December with the intent to make the day bigger than ever and to have something for everybody.

“All performers are either from South Fayette or have lived in the township,” Simmons said.

Festivities start at 11 a.m., with the national anthem being sung by 12-year-old Ariel Cameroe at Fairview’s main stage.

An acoustic duo, Steelesque, will perform there from 11:15 to 12:15 p.m. At the same time on the community stage, the South Fayette High School Show Choir Ladies will perform.

The choir will be followed by JuliAnne Wright, a singer-songwriter. The Riversong String Ensemble will give a performance at 1:15 p.m., followed by Bollywood Tunes and a performance by the Sanskruti School of Indian Dance and Music.

Other performers scheduled for the main stage are the country band Ruff Creek at 12:30 and the Dave Iglar Band at 3:30.

Simmons said there will be 70 vendors – 80, if food vendors are included – throughout the park.

“There will be home show businesses, like clothing and jewelry, as well as local organizations,” she said. Also featured will be face painting, a corn hole tournament, photo booth, and bounce houses and a petting zoo for kids.

Since parking is a premium at Fairview Park, the township will have a shuttle service available to and from Zion Lutheran Church and Kiddie Academy South Fayette on Washington Pike, the former Star City site at Route 50 and Hickory Grade Road, and Morgan Park, off Millers Run Road.
