New Peters Township School District teachers honored at chamber luncheon

Eleven new teachers and staff members were honored Aug. 26 at the annual Peters Township Chamber of Commerce luncheon for new teachers at the Valley Brook Country Club in McMurray.
“We are a community chamber,” said Brian Schill, the chamber’s executive director. “We love it. It is not a fund raiser. It is important for the community to work together and we want them to feel appreciated.”
The district has 282 teachers, nurses and counselors.
New to Peters Township High School this year are Mark Schrier, social studies; Jacob Orend, biology: Laura Donohoe, special education; and Sara McCarthy, mathematics. Joining the middle school are Halea Hayden, who will teach German both at the middle school and at McMurray Elementary, and Mary Collins, seventh-grade math.
New at McMurray Elementary are Anna Wellek, who will teach gifted students, and Jamie Gilbert, physical education. At Bower Hill Elementary School, Emily Kiswardy will teach second grade and Maura McGregor, learning support. Holly Kosanovich will be the new nurse at both Pleasant Valley Elementary and at Peters Township Middle School.
“Becoming a new teacher in Peters Township School District is no easy task,” said Michael Fisher, assistant to the superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment. “Applicants go through a rigorous process and we are confident that each one of our new teachers will be a tremendous asset to the students they teach in our community.”
The first day of school for Peters Township School District’s 4,000-plus students is Tuesday, Sept. 6.
